[oletrucks] New member with a quest

Greetings,

I am new to the list and have been just reading for a while.
Lots of knowledge on this list.
I have what I believed was a 56 GMC one-ton long bed
stepside dually:

VIN: 253 8C Y1018

Somewhere in it's past it lost the original engine and
four-speed Hydramatic transmission, which I would like to
find. Can anyone tell from the VIN what engine it had and is
it truly a 56? Whatever else you can tell me from the number
would be great too.
