Guys,
I searched far and wide and did find the emerald green paint chip that I
needed to match for the molding on my '46.
Here are some sources for finding unusual GM and Chevy paint colors for old
trucks:
Dupont (the original makers of the nitrocellulose lacquers on our old trucks)
(800) 338-7668. They have a whole department for helping, just follow the
recorded instructions to get to a live person.
Hibernia, Steve (973) 627-1882. Nice guy.
Art Davidson (800) 653-2447.
Art is going to send me an original chip for $17.50.
I also found out from one of these old time auto paint guys that Bon Ami, the
bathroom cleaner, works well when mixed in a paste with a slow buffer to buff
out the paint after using 1000 to 2000 grit paper. I'll let you know how well
after I try this trick. Evidentially Bon Ami contains diatomaceous silica at
the correct grit.
My thanks to all who helped on this quest and Merry Christmas!
