Well, there is no reason at all unless you are going for higher performance.
The torque tube rear end is where most of the reason you can only go 45 mph
comes from. The gear ratio is so high. Also, if you decide to add the very
friendly to install 3 speed overdrive into your truck so you are now capable
of 80-90 mph, changing to a modern rear end is pretty much mandatory. My
frame-up restoration is completely original, but I am also working on a
daily driver that will have overdrive, 3.90 rear end, a 261 engine, and
radial tires. Its not as radical as IFS and a V8, but everything I am doing
bolts right up without any modifications.
