Is the TF rear end the same as used in 55-64 passenger cars? Not concerned
with the housing, but with the gears and bearings (and posi-traction) used
in the center section.

Check to make sure BOTH sides of the axle only made two turns.
I have never seen a TF rear axle with a lower (numerically) ratio than
3.08:1.
GMC master parts manual lists 3.08, 3.90, 4.11 and 4.56 as standard or
optional
ratios on half ton GMC models from 55.2 thru 59.

Subject: [oletrucks] 59 (?) Rear end
I found a rear end in the old junkyard today which has me puzzled. It is
six lug, marked 59 chev and looks like that's what it is. When I spin the
yoke, the axle revolves just over 2 times. Was there a
2-point-something-to-1 rear end in 59? If so, what engine / tranny did it
take?
If not, what the heck could it be?
