While attempting to have my own radiator rebuilt, I fell out when quoted a
price for a re-core. After the obligatory "Duhhhhhh?", I was told that
there are "Original" style cores out there (something about honeycomb?) and
these are "very" expensive. My quote included over 400.00 for the new core
alone, less labor. It "probably" included the cost of the matches necessary
to light the torch used for soldering, an EPA fee for any ozone damage that
could possibly occur in the process of the matches lighting, a disposal fee
for the old core (which HAD to including transportation to an approved
dumping ground definitely located at least 7 states away) and a Foo-Foo can
of paint or two to dress it up as well, plus the rental of a climate
controlled dust free paint booth to ensure a purrrrfect job of painting with
the foo-foo can, among other things...
My truck "IS" a 100 point truck, though the 100 points I'm referring to
are all references to things that are broken or rusted! Since I'm simply
trying to keep the old girl alive and in no way am considering a restoration
at this point, I opted for a "Desert Cooler" radiator which fits great, and
works very well. No complaints. Several hundred dollars cheaper, and she
does just fine, thank you...

52 GMC. I thought that was a little steep. There are reproduction
radiators out there for less than $300. I'm going to be running the
stock 228 engine. Does anyone know about the quality of the
reproductions? Any other thoughts?
