Thanks Jack and all,

   I would just like to add that I did find my casting number in one
listing, FINALLY.  it was on
http://www.chevytalk.com/GMhistory/1916-57cast.html and turns out to be a
1953 235ci according to this sheet.  so I now have something to go off of to
plan a rebuild.  thanks again to all who helped and gave information.  I
searched a bunch and with a bit of luck, finally got a lead.  this is only
one of many answers that the list has helped me find.  a great resource,
especially to the newcomers, but likewise to the regulars.

Ps.  does anyone have information on the specs for the '53 235?  any and all
would be greatly appreciated.
