Anyone that knows me will be in complete shock to hear (read) this, but I
have to confess something: I have too many projects.
And I just picked up another one, a Donzi speedboat. So I need some room
for this semi-project and need to have one of you oletrucksters rescue one
of my neglected projects.
My wife's 1950 has been mostly sitting on the side of the shop for the last
18 months. Originally I was going to start work on it this past winter,
but instead found a '53 that had an auto tranny, more modern 270ci, and
Monte Carlo rear end in it that was supposedly ready for final paint. Well
efforts were focused on the '53 instead, and the '50 has languished.
I still have my '57--it will leave my shop only when I slip this mortal
coil.
So here's the specifics:
1950 3100, runs.
Has a 292 bolted to the stock 4 speed and torque tube. Infact it is mostly
stock except for the engine and some minor DPO'isms that I'll mention
below. Comes with a spare stock front axle from drum to drum and three or
four extra stock 16" rims with tires. No drastic body work needed, my plan
was to wire brush the whole truck, spray it with some DP90 sealing primer,
then skim coat it with filler and make it nice and smooth, then paint it. I
also have the clean Oregon title. That's the good.
Now the bad:
Needs the cracked side windows repaired, has some surface rust in the
resprayed
yellow paint. Some nimrod in the past decided that he needed to use it to
tow something and fabbed up the ugliest, wonkiest looking tow ball by
welding up angle iron and chopping the rear valence under the tailgate.
It's missing two of the trim bits on the fenders, the painted grill has a
couple of dents that are repairble without welding, and one that needs to
be replaced or welded. The cab floor is rust free, but was repaired with
some non stock galvanized steel. The welds are nice and clean, and if it
was me, I'd just cover the floor with a rubber mat or spray in bedliner.
The headliner in the cab is pulled away in places. The passenger window
winder is a bit of straight iron welded up. The front bumper cover is
tweaked and really should be replaced if you can find it.
Now the plea:
I can see this oletruck slowly rotting away over the next few years before
I get a chance to start on it, and its nice enough that I feel really bad
every time I walk by it and see some mold growing on the underside of the
door or in the bed. I've offered it up forsale to the list in the past and
had some lookers. I even had a cash offer who backed out on me and left
his deposit ($50) in my pocket. I picked up the truck about two years
ago, for $900, and trailered it home from Hermiston (about 70 miles away),
where its been on my micro-ranch ever since. Someone please take this
running project off my hands, and rescue it from the forces of nature. I'll
make you a great deal, I promise.
