1955 was the first year for any smog stuff in CA. It was something pretty
minimal. I have registered 3 1955 vehicles here, and only on one of them
did they require an inspection. Again, I think it depends on whether the
people you're dealing with are familiar with the regs and whether they're
sticklers or not.
