I had an '83 GMC with a 305 I ran it for about 3 years and constantly got
13-14 mpg on the highway I swapped in a 350 with a fairly mild cam and
rejetted the carb (everything else was left alone) after the swap I got 16-18
mpg highway and had a lot more passing power
another thing to consider is cost of rebuild the 305 parts will cost a little
more (my book shows ~$100)
