First, some master cylinders have residual valves in them. To check, stick a
paper clip into the port. If it stops, there is probably a residual valve in
there. Or, blow through them and see if the flow is blocked or not. Drum
setups should ALWAYS have a 10 psi residual valve. Discs should have a 2 psi
residual valve IF the master cylinder is under the floor. With all the
mismatched parts on old trucks, a variable proportioning valve is probably a
better choice than the stock fixed ones. A proportioning valve is necessary
to keep the rear from locking up before the front.
