I think I want to leave the tank pressure up at 175psi. The main reason I
wanted a bigger compressor, is because my last one was inadequate for a
couple of things: I have a couple of air sanders that would draw more air
than it could deliver, and it was hopelessly frustrating to try and
sandblast with it. I don't harbor the illusion that my new compressor will
be able to do sustained, continuous, sandblasting- but I'd like to have as
long of sandblasting sessions as possible- before having to stop and wait
for the compressor to recharge the tank. The higher my tank pressure (the
more above my working pressure of ~100psi) the longer air reserve I'm going
to have. If I lowered the tank pressure to say 120psi, then I'd only have a
small reserve of overpressure to work with.
So, that leaves me back with trying to find a regulator to step my line
pressure down to ~120psi. I may have found a Stanley industrial unit (~$30)
to fit the bill. The package says it has a 0-125psi output pressure, and
the (output) gauge reads up to 160. Max inlet pressure isn't specified on
the package, but the shop is trying to figure it out for me. If this fails,
I'll have to figure out how to convince Grainger to sell me something :-).
I guess I can be the "tools purchaser" for my dad's contracting business or
something.
