Gary, check out this page:
http://www.faribault.k12.mn.us/brian/camaro/specs.htm#ManGear
I used a saginaw with the Patrick's shifter in mine, but I'm running an old
283 (not 300Hp). I have heard both views about a Saginaw not being strong
enough and people say they've run them drag racing big blocks. I also read
somewhere "I think" that one type of Muncie is stronger than the other and
the other type is not as good as the Saginaw because of the aluminium case.
One of the things I considered was the first gear ratio. The old trans
(granny 4-spped) 2nd gear is about a 3.50 ratio. This was comfortable for me
with tall tires and a 3.08 rear gear ratio. I looked for the Saginaw with
the 3.50 first gear to keep that ratio. Most people don't like that ratio,
it spreads the the rpm drop between gears too muc ( I guess). anyway that
page will show you gear ratios. I have a picture of the Patricks shifter
mounted at http://www.n-link.com/~rameyfam follow the links to the truck
page.
