Hmmmmmmm. I guess I have a similar problem now that you mention it. I
have a slight problem with my handling too. Even with a rebuilt front end
(kingpins and tie rod ends), I still get steering anomalies. I have a
power steering mod. When in parking lots I turn the wheel to pull out and
then turn back the other way. Sometimes the truck wants to over-steer and
continue in the original direction. It comes as a surprise when your in a
tight parking lot!
With the exception of an ocassional drift, much of my freeway driving
problems have gone away since going to new kingpins and tie rod ends.

The other problem is in the rear. When I get on the throttle, the rear
begins to hop at around 50 mph. Shocks are good.

Note: I happened to notice a missing zirk fitting (grease nipple) on one of
the shackle pins.

1.) Would these wheel hopping and over-steering problems be caused by worn
shackle pins?
2.) If so, what is the procedure for replacement of shackle pins?

Hi all
just an old trick that sometimes helps when all else fails to give the
results desired when working with straight axles. At the front shackles
either make a bar with adjustable ends to put outward pressure on the
springs, or a chain with a turnbuckle in the middle to take up the slack.
The object is to remove any slop in the front suspension, old fashion but
it works
