Hi all,
I was offered a truck last week end while camping down on the beach with
our 49 3100 and tear drop trailer. The guy said he thought it was a 50 cab
over.
I went to look at it today, it's a 5700, has vent windows and push button
outer door handles, no vent in the left cowl. I suspect it must be at least
a 51. The driver originally must have worn an oxygen mask at the altitude
of the steering wheel. I copied down the vin off the door plate, which is
like
new, it reads U531009474, with a GW 16000 (wow!) It's rolling, meaning it
has air in the tires, and (I think) most of a 235 6 behind the stock radiator.
The shiny stuff has been scavenged but the glass and frames are in tact.
There is and extra rear half of a frame on top of the exiting frame with
another
set of rear springs and several dual wheels. This thing is about 1/4 of a
mile
from the ocean, and if it isn't rescued the salt will eat it up. There is a
55 Chev
2 door wagon, complete, right next to it, but it is dissolving in the salt
mist.
The price is right - free. Two obstacles, number one convincing the boss
I need another project after camping out at a rod run on the beach on
Moms day, and the other being getting it home about 35 -40 miles.
Can anyone id it from the VIN??
