Just guessing, sounds like a retrofit heater and the cab has been repainted. If
I remember right the 54 had louveres on the passenger side in front of the door
for fresh air intake to provide the heater with air. It was also a great for
rust to start on the front passenger side of the cab. Mr. ADler might be able
to tell you more if you ask him VERY NICELY. Or were to move in across the
street from him as long as you had an ole truck. He wants a new neighbor who
owns and ole truck - send picture of the truck! Bob Fentress

I have a 54 chevy 1/2 ton short box and have a question about the heater. I
have a heater core that sits in the engine compartment, not in the cab. I have
never seen another one like it. It has a plate over the place in the cab where
a normal fresh air heater is normally located. This plate is painted the same
color as the cab. Does anyone have any information about this type of heater?
Was it an option?
