I have a new radiator and had my heater core recored with tube & fin core in
my 58 Chevy also. I have been runnung a 13lb cap for about two years with no
problems. However if you are still running with the original core you will
need to stay with a 4lb cap. >>
GM cars of the 1960s came with cellular heater cores, tube and fin radiators
and 14 lb pressure caps. So cellular heater cores are engineered for the
higher pressure. I have not found a cellular radiator that came from the
factory with higher than 7 psi cap. Apparently cellular heater cores take
the pressure without a problem, but high pressure isn't so god for larger
cores.
