RE: [oletrucks] continuing gas gauge problem

Be very careful before trying this. Old Lionel train transformers put 
out ALTERNATING CURRENT, not DC. They also go higher than 12 volts, 
possibly up to 20VAC. Use a multimeter first and veryify the voltage 
that your train transformer puts out before you send all that voltage 
thru your gas gauge.
