Be very careful before trying this. Old Lionel train transformers put out ALTERNATING CURRENT, not DC. They also go higher than 12 volts, possibly up to 20VAC. Use a multimeter first and veryify the voltage that your train transformer puts out before you send all that voltage thru your gas gauge.
