Hi Guys
Some people are not aware that the ATW is a 3 part event, in that some cars
only went as far as Istanbul, others go on to Peking and the toughest (read
survivors) continue around the world. So where does that leave the rally as
it stands today, well for one thing the cars have been reduced in number by
20 and this has had a dramatic effect on the results, as one would expect.
The rest days proved interesting with one Facel entering the Hilton hotel
via a very large plate glass window, Andrew sustained some severe cuts in
the process. Now, you and I known that there just has to be a story behind
that one! The entertainment for the evening was provided by, amongst other
thing a belly dancer, (contact me off list if you want to see a picture)
this spurred Freddie Giles into stuffing paper money into her very small
attire, rumor has it that he now has stock in Viagra!
The Hunts have a broken exhaust header, a replacement one is on the way to
them. The positions in the vintage section start with the Lagonda M45 still
out in the lead being chased by the MX Bentley and Packard but the 2CV is
still holding its ground in 4th place.
The classics are no led by the aforementioned Mr. Giles (belly dancer
sponsor!) in the Hillman Hunter some 6 mins ahead of the Alvis, then 1 min
apart are the Porsche 356 and the Aston DB2/4
The highest place Jaguar are the Jones in the XK150s in 6th place the Healey
of Dyke-Price and Stu Onyett are holding joint 9th place with the 1965
Mustang. The Hunts are back in 29th spot with the broken header and the
other Facel is in 34th place.
The MGB is winning friends with it's 30th position. A lot of people have
forgot just how strong the old MGB is!. The Morgan +4 of the Mahul's is some
8 hours behind the time but still fighting all the way. As they enter the
rougher roads it will be a test of the sliding pillar suspension and of the
Mahul's bodies, I hope they have plenty of padding.
