Fellow Listers:
This upcoming Saturday, June 13th, the Brookings, SD, car club will
conduct time trials at the airport. I plan to take our Plus 8 down
there and see how it will do.
Our car is a 1987 and is bone-stock as far as the engine/drivetrain is
concerned. So, it should be fun to see what it will do - not that I
have the necessary personal skill to get the best performance out of
this car. One book I have says the 1987 versions are supposed to do the
0-60 mph in 5.3 or 5.4 seconds.
These time trials are solo runs, 660' in length, they have a starting
"tree" and will be electronically timed by Daktronics. We all get at
least 4 runs, possibly more, so maybe I can do a decent job on one of
them. Street cars that are not modified are considered to be quite fast
if they hit 80 mph within this 1/8th of a mile distance. The "hot" cars
should top 120 mph.
