Someone asked over Christmas about wheel centres and the best replacements.
I use my lovely everyday +8 for racing, and found that the extra heat in
the wheels under track conditions causes the centre holes to expand enough
that the Morgan plastic fitment drops out.
You can get new fitments from the factory for, from memory, about ?12 a
set.
Melvyn Rutter advertised stainless steel bolt on fittings, which I tried to
buy last November (96) but was told by a very surly man who answered the
phone that they couldn't be bothered to make them unless there was a
reasonable demand, and the 12 I wanted (3 sets of wheels) wasn't enough. I
could try again some other time or they could take my name and let me know
if their stainless steel machining man had some spare time in the next few
months.
I discovered that John Worrall at Heart of England Morgans manufactures a
hammer-in stainless wheel centre with the crest on it. Somewhat cheaper
than the Rutter version, and seems to be of excellent quality. Mine
arrived by return of post and none has dropped out in 12 months of hard
use.
Happy New Year and great Morgan Motoring to all!
