I'm rebuilding the engine in my 54 plus four, which had sat partially
disassembled for many years. It's a Standard Vanguard which I'm building to
TR4 specs. When I disassembled the engine, the crank hub and pulley (brazed
together) were badly mangled well beyond reuse, so I'm using a TR4 hub and
two-piece pulley. The pulley on the TR donor motor also was mangled -- it
had the extension for the fan bolted on. My question is how Morgans
assembled the pulley on later TR engined cars. One pulley half is deeply
dished, the other is flatter with a reinforcing ring where the bolt holes
are. Does the deeply dished pulley half fit against the rear of the hub
flange, ie between the flange and the timing cover? How was the pulley
bolted to the hub flange, since thre is a lip on the TR flange that would
appear to interfere with nuts.
Did TR engined Morgans have the support bolt with the shoulder protrude
through the timing chain cover right above the hub seal? The Vanguard
timing cover hole was brazed shut presumably because the bolt and nut may
have fouled the pulley. I don't want to take a chance on putting this on
wrong, because I know a lot of grief is involved in taking it off again.
Also, I'd appreciate info on how the morgan fan fixes to the water pump
pulley. I have the Morgan fan and two water pumps with no ring or drilled
and tapped holes to bolt the fan onto.
Appreciate any help or insight...
