You can't go thinner even when using chromoly.  You would have been able to had 
the only requirement be matching of Sy*I/c.  But the EI needs to be matched 
too.  The smallest dimension is 1.25"x0.049" that would still meet the EI.  
Besides, welding 0.049" wall thickness of any material isn't terribly easy nor 
fast.
