I remember some years ago that Lawrie (what was his last name - the
pro from NoCal?) had a discussion about this matter. I had always
retorqued heads after the run-in and after the engine had cooled down.
Lawrie had alway retorqued after the initial run-in and while the engine
was still hot. We both had success doing it the way we were taught, so
we agreed that there was more than one way to success.
Neither of us had ever heard of loosening the nuts/bolts first.
