This is one reason I've always preferred the HIF design. Other
reasons are the concentric throttle return springs, the separate cold-
start enrichment ("choke") circuit, and the fact that my first (and
only) 'B is a '74. ;)

Temporarily installing clear fuel hoses would likely help in
diagnosing this scenario.
