Hi Bernie, I think that could be your problem. You have to ensure that the loop in the end of the points spring only makes contact with the wire to the Terminal and the orange wire to the condenser. It must not contact the plate or stud in any way. Do you still have your old points? Maybe the other nylon washer is still stuck to it.
