Dennis:
You may run into a minor, though aggravating problem if you try installing a
drain cock on the engine. The passage from the water jacket to the existing
plug location tends to fill with sediment which hard packs and can be very
difficult to clear.
When the plug is removed, there will usually be a solid plug of sediment,
scrape this out to the depth of about 1/2". Then using a hooked wire, start
pulling material down from the passage which goes vertically from the plug bore
up to the water jacket. It helps if you leave coolant in the engine, as you
will know when you have broken through and the coolant will help to flush the
remaining sediment out of the passage.
BTW. Only the unasked questions are dumb.
The White/Black wire will always be the contact switched line from distributor
to coil. The female conector plugs onto the distributor if you are still
running points. If you have converted to electronic ignition, tape back the
White/Black wire at the alternator/distributor end. It's probably a good idea
to connect the other end to the coil, just in case you want to revert to points
at some time.
