Mike,
I was under the impression (perhaps mistakenly) that the bridge rectifier is
usually manufactured as single part and Monte would not be able to replace a
bad diode individually. Unfortunately, I do not have my "B" handy for
examination. The rectifier seems to be available from Moss for a reasonable
$12 or
so. (Sorry, I forgot about the shipping...I live near the East coast warehouse
and able to just go and pickup what I need.) Let's see what Monte comes up
with when he takes a closer look at the alternator. Of course, if the
differences in wiring can be sorted out, then swapping the '79 unit with the
'74 unit
might be the way to go. I believe the Moss catalog has an excellent
description of the alternator wiring differences in it somewhere.
