I have heard enough anectodal to suggest that the Lucas alternators will go bad if jumped. I always unplug the alternator before jumping it. It takes 5 seconds and is good insurance. The difference between alternators is probably the plug. The really early ones had 5 connections, that later. Of course it isn't that simple. The early later ones had a different plug setup than the later later. You can put any year alternator in any year car if you change the plug to match. Maynard |
