You asked for it.

My opinions:

Go where someone has gone before.  Since Rover V8s are common in your
area I'd suggest using one of the many varieties of that engine.  Use
the Rover transmission.  Use the MG Rear end.  You car will go like
stink in first gear.  Fifth will be a bit high revving at around 80 mph.
You can change the rear end later if you don't like that.  

You will need to cut and bend sheet metal to make it fit.  The radiator
has to be moved.  If the engine is fuel injected you'll have to do major
surgery on the plenum or the hood (bonnet) of the car.  If your MGB was
a 1977 or newer and you use a carburetor it becomes almost a 'drop in'.

Changing over to any different engine will be expensive, complicated,
and not for the faint of heart.

It would be much cheaper and simpler to rebuild the stock engine and if
you feel the need for speed put a blower on it.
