On my 1969 model, which came equipped with rubber floor mats rather than
carpeting, there are four snaps attached to the floor (the male piece).
Each rubber mat had corresponding female snaps at the four corners.
I can't speak for cars that came with carpeting from the factory - and I
think this started in 1970 - your car - but am not at all certain!
