The secret to using a copper gasket is two fold
1) Anneal the copper so it is very soft.
2) Lap the head to the block. This can only be done on a dissasembled
engine.
I've successfully used copper and aluminum head gaskets of thinner
material than the stock head gasket in a XPAG. The purpose was to raise
the compression ratio further without milling the head more than
recommended.
