Kelvin, I'm not an RBB driver, but my dad has one sitting around that we
plan to deal with some day. I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess
that you are talking about a supercharger, and that among other things, the
reason you mention RBBs is that you could probably reuse the carb and intake
by putting the supercharger in between, thus saving the cost of a new
manifold and carb.
Anyways...My dad and I have tossed ideas around because he has a '74 CBB
that he has gotten away from driving because of the power issue. Basically,
I think if you were really thrifty and went for the minimum install you
could fit a V8 for that price and a few months with off the shelf parts. Or
you could buy a supercharger, bolt it in in a weekend, have a car that could
be returned to stock, and be on your way for the same 3k.
He is a purist and wouldn't be willing to do anything irreversable to any of
his cars, so the V8 is really out. I think if you have a person with a
decent car who is looking to get the performance more inline with today's
cars, 3k is way less then a new/used car payment and if you look at it that
way you can't loose. I think the biggest problem is that too many people
have gotten away from driving MGs every day because they don't feel that the
cars are up to it. I also think that there is a larger percentage of RBB
owners who have the car as a car, because they are still popping up at used
car lots with old hondas; while the CBBs have really passed that age and
tend to be given collector status with more of them are in the hands of
enthusiasts and trading in more classical and collector oriented venues, so
that may or may not help the saleability of an RBB kit.
IMO, FWIW, etc, etc.
