I made a spring compressor from two pieces of flat steel stock 2' wide, 9"
long & 3/16" thick. Drilled holes 7" apart for 4" long grade 5 bolts with
full-length thread. Have used it a few times. With current short springs
on my B, it's hardly necessary any longer. But, handy to have in a pinch.
To use, simply undo one bolt, slide plates between spring coils. Reinstall
2nd bolt & begin tightening each in succession untill spring is sufficiently
compressed.
