front spring removal

Anyone have any experience building a spring compressor for the MGB?  Front
suspension assembly is out and on the bench for rebuilding.  I would have
used the jack against the spring pan method with everything in the car, but
with the engine out, the whole car would lift rather than the spring
compressing.
