Strangely enough, after three daily drivers and three different carb
setups, when getting to work is the main concern, it doesn't seem to matter
to the carbs what kind of oil is them them or without them.
I've tried using whatever's in the block; (i.e., lighter in the winter and
heavier in the summer [as the manual recommends]), Marvel Mystery Oil, ATF,
the same weight all year, 3-in-1, and a few I can't remember and I've found
that the SU carbs are about as forgiving a carburetor as has ever been
made. Now I tend to go with whatever I have in the block and I generally
only check the dashpots every six months or so.
I've found that, as Twist says, if there's a problem with the carbs it's
probably a problem with the electrics.
