Don't smoke?
I put a solid state one on mine 5 years ago. (Replaced another solid
state one...)
There was a pre-pump fuel filter that was supposed to be mounted on
mine. There wasn't room for it. I figured the worst thing that would
happen was the pump would get destroyed over time. So far, no
problems.
Just follow the directions, and you should be fine.
