Bob:

If the cable has an solid outer plastic sheath, high
yourself to a motor cylcle shop and get a "gizmo" for
lubricating throttle and brake cables.

It clamps around the inner and outer cable and seals them. 
When a pressurized lubricant is applied to an access hole,
the lubricant is forced the length of the cable.
