How to defeat locking steering wheel?

My '71 B has the locking steering wheel. This is a big pain when lubing,
re-booting, installing new ujoints, etc. One must turn the key on to move
the steering wheel. Is there a simple way of defeating this feature? I'll
take my chances with the reduced theft deterrence. :-)
