Absolutely anything - intermittent, weak, or sudden death.

The relay can be a standard item, the stabiliser needs to replicate the
average voltage produced by the standard item switching on and off once or
twice a second.
Are you sure all these items have gone bad? Smacks more of dodgy
connections to me.
