Any number can be faked.
ADO52/1060 is the documented number of the MGC race car that was prepped to
race at the 1968 Marathon de la Route. It ran the licence plate MBL546E.
ADO52 designates the MGC model.
According to the owner of the E-Bay car there was sufficient documentation
included with the Californian scrap parts to have UK registration issued
under the ADO/1061 plate.
I think he also stated that ADO52/1061 was listed as a number that was not
registered.
The point is that the factory records and recollections are vague enough
that all kinds of possibilities exist.
Anyone who believes that the history of MG is etched in stone, hasn't
taken the time to turn the stone over to see what crawls out.
BTW, re-reading "MGB" by David Knowles last night I noted that the
beautyful fender flares were add-ons. The alloy wings were made up of
blisters fabricated by Abbey Panels which were grafted onto alloy fenders.
Since standard alloy fenders were available from the competition department,
who knows how many sets of flared fenders could have been made up. Since
they were highly labor intensive, I've got a feeling there could not have
been too many.
Safety Fast.
Kelvin Dodd.
