Hi Andrew,
The stabiliser is mounted onto the firewall behind the temp. gauge.
In my '71 BGT this gauge did not work as well.
As the temp gauge works well, the most obvious failing part is the temp
sender int the tank.
Check:
Check that the ground wire of the temp sender really is ground, its
connection to the car body maybe corroded.
When correct make the two wires on the temp. sender connecting eachother;
then switch on the contact briefly and switch off quickly afterwards - don't
need to start the engine.
The gauge should travel to F quickly. If so, the temp. sender is faulty.
If the travel does not happen, the gauge does not receive voltage.
Check with a proper diagram. The voltage from the regulator should turn
on/off and is visable with a meter (digital meters show this less).
As the other gauges are working properly, I don't expect the regulator is
faulty...
Good luck!
Cheers,
Hans

Subject: Where is the insturment voltage stablizer?
This is about a '70 B.
A few years back now I hooked up a replacement alternator without closely
reading the wiring on the new one. (I traded the core at the shop before I
brought it home, I have since learned...)
Anyway, I smoked part of my harness. I got everything taking care of other
than my gas gauge.
Now, three+ years later, I am trying to fix it.
I turned on the key. I checked the voltage level at the sender. The wires
were disconnected, one of them has 40mV and the other is ground. Back at
the gauge, there is no power. Where is the stablizer located and what does
it look like?
When I apply voltage to the gauge via a 9volt, it climbs right up...
Am I on the right track thinking that there should be voltage in the wire at
the sender?
My Temp gauge does work still.
Andrew
