I never owned a non- O/D car, so I can't answer. The knob is pot metal & would
take the heat of a heat gun as long as the plastic parts are removed. Its been
12 years since I took mine apart, so I beg failing memory, but could you modify
a deep well socket, cutting away part of 1 flat to clear the wires & turn the
nut with an extension & rachet?
