Frank,

I don't know who started the campaign to use non-detergent oil. As someone
said earlier, there are no combustion by-products in a gearbox so there is
no need to use a detergent oil. However, I am not aware of any damaging
effects from the detergent additives so I see no reason to specify a
non-detergent oil for a gearbox, with or without overdrive. I use Valvoline
Racing 30 wt., for its anti-foaming qualities and high shear strength and,
quite honestly, I have no idea if it is a dergent or non-detergent
oil..................!
