I had a fun day at Thunderhill yesterday. It was rather humorous in that
one of my students had a 200hp BMWtii and the other had a 500hp cobra
replica. With the restrictive passing rules in group 1, I'd let them
pass and would never be able to get around them again.
When running at speed, my temperature guage would just peg itself at the
hot end. With the new sensor, it does seem to read a bit hotter than it
did with the old sensor, and the car never messily overheated, but I'd like
to improve the situation before the Labor Day race. Plan A is to find a
thrashed radiator to use as a core, take it to a radiator shop and say
"put as much cooling capacity into this as humanly possible".
Does anyone have suggestions for shops in the San Jose/Santa Clara/
Santa Cruz for doing such work? Does anyone already happen to have
a "race ready" radiator for an MGB lying around? I suspect that folks
doing V8 conversions already know the solution to this problem.
My old radiator is in good shape and does just fine, as long as I'm not
running at full throttle continuously in 90F weather.
I'm also having problems with my car eating exhaust donuts. It's gone
through about the fourth set in the past year. I suspect that the
exhaust system might be fastend too securely to the undercarriage,
causing engine movement and chassis flex to put nasty strains on the
exhaust donuts. Has anyone else encountered and solved this problem?
I've go to put in a good word for the folks at British racing green who,
when it turns out that one pair of my new wheels was not even size that
BRG stocks, much less one that fits on MGBs, managed to get a replacement
pair to my mechanic in time to get me to the track this weekend. And this
was on a day that they were short handed in the office and had to have
one of their mechanics answer the phones.
