Hi Richard,
Buy a manual and some basic tools and pull it apart. You can do it a
lot cheaper than paying to have it done and you'll know what you have
when it's over. Being a competent mechanic is not rocket science. It's
common sense, attention to detail, following some fundamental rules in a
systematic manner and applying the info in the manuals correctly (er, so
is rocket science (G)). There are piles of good DIY books out there
which will lead you thru a rebuild in a clear and understandable
manner. If you can comprehend simple instructions, you can DIY. And
the sense of accomplishment when it purrs is second to few things in
life.
