The previous owner of my car ('72) installed a Weber because the
SU's were in need of a rebuild, and at the time replacement SU's
were apparently unavailable in the USA.
Weber had full page ads every month in any mag that might appeal
to do-it-yourelf types, which basically said "don't waste time,
just bolt on one of our carbs". It saved finding a specialist
to rebuild old carbs (and requisite downtime with the car off
the road) and gave a "set and forget" result -- no need to top-
up damper oil.
