I do appreciate the responses I got to my problem with the
inoperative trunk latch.
It seems my case was a "worst" as after about 5 hours of blind attempts
I decided to remove the lock assembly. I managed to drill and dremel
the lock assembly until the barrel could be removed and was then able to
finally get the lid open. Only put one small scratch in the trunk paint
so I'm pretty happy.
I can say definitively that one need never to drill sheet metal to get
the lid open. Just carefully cut parts of the lock assembly off until
the barrel will come out. It's a pain in the ass but better than the
alternative.
