Hi Dan,
I've helped my brother just in the troubleshooting last friday.
Now about the reality:
His Midget is an ex-USA Midget '66.
Ex USA because there are full red read rear light lenses are used instead of
the European mix of red-orange.
The ground point of the left front blinker light and sidelight is not where
you pointed.
It derives from the lh side ground.
Both lamps in the left front unit were not working.
The cause was no ground contact at a ground bullet connector receptacle in
the middle and just behind the front grille.
It's quite obvious this part will give problems, because it has been
collecting water and dirt for over 30 years. (Not well thought by the MG
desighners over I think)
The rear ground was were you pointed.
It will be corrected soon.

What color codes are used for this year Midget?
