Hello Charley:
Thanks for the response. Yes, $500.00 is a considerable sum of money to me
and most people I know. Shipping is always expensive. My point was that I
shipped a valuable motorcycle 2,000 miles for less than that amount. The
last MG I shipped cost almost $600.00 for about the same distance. It also
travelled with a separate spare engine, gearbox, rear axle assembly, and ten
boxes of spare parts. (The boxes were mostly packed inside the car.) In each
case it was worth it as I could hardly have made the trip myself for twice
that amount.
I do not know the freight classification for used engines. I suspect it is a
rather low classification. One can usually qualify for motor freight
discounts. Through a business affiliation our company gets 50% MF discounts
even though we ship heavy goods only infrequently. Most of the companies I
deal with enjoy similar discounts. It is often possible to ship specialty
goods at reduced rates by using a small trucking line that is dead-heading
back from another delivery.
Regards,
David
