Check to make sure that you are getting spark at the points while the key is
in the on position, and not just when cranking the starter. Do this by
flicking the points open and closed with the key in the "on" setting.
Sometimes the wiring in the key assembly goes bad and shorts itself other
out, causing spark while engaging the starter only. Also, does the coil
have an external ballast resistor? If so, its worth checking too.
